Purported UFO video to be shown Friday

A video that purportedly shows a living, breathing space alien will be shown to the news media Friday in Denver.

Jeff Peckman, who is pushing a ballot initiative to create an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission in Denver to prepare the city for close encounters of the alien kind, said the video is authentic and convinced him that aliens exist.

“As impressive as it is, it’s still one tiny portion in the context of a vast amount of peripheral evidence,” he said Wednesday. “It’s really the final visual confirmation of what you already know to be true having seen all the other evidence.”

When Peckman went before city officials this month to discuss his proposed ET initiative, he promised to show the video.

Peckman said the general public will have to wait to see it because it’s being included in a documentary by Stan Romanek.

“No one will be allowed to film the segment with the extraterrestrial because there is an agreement in place limiting that kind of exposure during negotiations for the documentary,” he said.

But people won’t have to wait too long to see it for themselves.

“There is an open, public meeting in about a month in Colorado Springs,” Peckman said. “We’ll hope to do one in Denver at some point, and then in a few months, there will be the documentary that anybody can have, and it’ll have the footage.”

An instructor at the Colorado Film School in Denver scrutinized the video “very carefully” and determined it was authentic, Peckman said.

Peckman, 54, said the video was among the reasons he was “compelled” to launch the proposed ballot initiative, which has generated news as far as South Africa.

“It shows an extraterrestrial’s head popping up outside of a window at night, looking in the window, that’s visible through an infrared camera,” he said. The alien is about 4 feet tall and can be seen blinking, Peckman said earlier this month.

In a statement, Peckman said “other related credible evidence” proving aliens exist will be shown at Friday’s news conference, too.

In 2003, Peckman authored an off-beat ballot initiative that would have required the city to implement stress-reduction techniques. The “Safety Through Peace” initiative failed, but garnered 32 percent of the vote.

Teacher wanted to be a sex slave

A Melbourne female teacher charged with sexually penetrating a 15-year-old student urged the boy to treat her like a sex slave, court documents show.

Nazira Rafei, 25, who is a teacher at a Melbourne high school, is charged with one count of sexually penetrating a child under 16 and four counts of an indecent act with a child under 16.

She is also charged with trying to conceal the relationship by making an unwarranted demand on the boy.

During a brief filing hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday, her lawyer, Steve Pica, indicated Rafei would plead not guilty.

“This case is likely to attract a fair degree of media attention,” Mr Pica told the court.

“I do want to place on the record that my client has been fully cooperative with police and is pleading not guilty.”

Police charge sheets tendered to the court allege she had sexual intercourse with a child under her “care, supervision or authority”.

On another occasion, it is alleged, the teacher told the student to “treat her like a sex slave” as she lay on top of him pinching his nipples in the back seat of her car.

Another charge relates to the teacher allegedly kissing the student on his lips and touching his genitals through clothing.

The case was adjourned for committal mention on August 29 at the same court.

Vietnam reports “UFO” explosion

HANOI (Reuters) - An unidentified flying object exploded in mid-air over a southern Vietnamese island, state media said Wednesday, a day after Cambodia’s air force retracted a report of a mysterious plane crash.

The Vietnam News Agency said residents of Phu Quoc island, 10 km (6 miles) off the coast of the Cambodian province of Kampot, found shards of grey metal, including one 1.5 meters (1.5 yards) long.

“The explosion happened at about 8 km (5 miles) above the ground, and perhaps it was a plane, but authorities could not identify whether it was a civil or military aircraft,” VNA said in a report headlined “UFO explodes over Phu Quoc Island.”

Soldiers were sent out to look for wreckage and survivors, and local authorities contacted airlines in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, but received no reports of missing aircraft, the official state news agency added.

Villagers in Kampot said Tuesday that they had heard a loud explosion. Wednesday they told Reuters they had found small chunks of metal near the coastline.

Kung Mony, deputy commander of Cambodia’s Air Force, said Tuesday he had been told of a foreign plane crashing in Kampot province, but later backed off his claims of an aircraft accident.

HK, China customs crack high-wire smuggling act

HONG KONG (AFP) - Hong Kong and Chinese customs have cracked an audacious smuggling operation that saw millions of dollars in goods ferried across the border along a long cable, officials and reports said Thursday.

Sixteen people — four from Hong Kong and 12 from China — were arrested and electronic goods, including computer accessories and mobile phones, worth more than six million Hong Kong dollars (0.8 million US) were seized.

“The ring was suspected of smuggling high-value electronic goods and computer accessories across the Sha Tau Kok river to the mainland,” Hong Kong’s customs department said in a statement.

A 300-metre-long cable was suspended between a house in rural Hong Kong and a high-rise building in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, allowing smugglers to move goods into the mainland using an elaborate pulley system, the South China Morning Post reported.

“There were many ways of smuggling in the past, such as by underground drains,” the report quoted Leo Sin, head of Hong Kong’s customs intelligence co-ordination group, as saying.

“But this is the first time we have found wire being used for smuggling.”

The cable was shot across the border using a crossbow and the goods were ferried across at night in black plastic bags, the report said.

The syndicate had been operating for two or three weeks, the report added.

Hong Kong and mainland China run independent legal and taxation systems, and smugglers often try to take advantage of different prices and tax rates to smuggle goods either in or out of China.

Heartbroken man climbs into morgue freezer

TAIPEI (Reuters) - A Taiwan man grieving over the death of his girlfriend climbed inside a morgue freezer to be with her and was only pulled out alive half an hour later, media and an official said on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old man was discovered on Monday when workers detected an unusually high temperature in the freezer and realized the hatch was not securely fastened.

“A morgue manager opened the hatch, saw two people lying inside, felt scared enough to yell out and then even cried,” the Liberty Times reported. “She didn’t stabilize for a long time.”

The man took a drug before entering the freezer to speed what appeared to be suicide attempt, local papers said. They said his girlfriend died on Friday from an overdose of sleeping pills.

The morgue would step up security to ensure that family and others who come by to identify bodies do not stay too long, morgue administrator Chang Lung-ching said.

Man Calls 2600 Times To Hear The Voice Of Operator

Tokyo - A Japanese plumber was arrested for calling a toll-free number around 500 times so he could hear a taped female voice, police said on Monday.

Hiroyuki Nomoto, a 38-year-old Tokyo resident, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the business of the company, a food firm based in the city of Takasaki north of the capital.

“The company has the number for 24-hour order-taking with a female voice. He said he wanted to hear a woman’s voice,” a police spokesperson said.

“The company paid the call charges, which amounted to 3,8-million yen (about 36,800 U.S. dollars) for the call time of 3100 hours,” the official said.

Obsession with female voices is not new for Japanese police.

A 37-year-old man was arrested in January after placing at least 2 600 calls to directory help over several months.

Telephone operators - who in Japan are almost always women - reportedly nicknamed him the “don’t-hang-up-man”.

Spanish village holds baby jump

Grown men have been leaping over rows of babies in the north Spanish village of Castrillo de Murcia in an annual rite meant to ward off the Devil.

Jumpers dressed as the Colacho, a character representing the Devil, bounded over clusters of bemused infants laid out on mattresses.

Nobody appeared to get hurt in this year’s festive event.

Castrillo, near Burgos, has been holding the event since 1620 to mark the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi.

The feast is widely celebrated in Spain, often with processions and mystery plays.

Pageants can feature dancers depicting demons and angels or other characters.
