Why suspects should be handcuffed BEHIND their backs before being shoved into vehicles

HandcuffsA HANDCUFFED man arrested on suspicion of a crime in Brisbane drove off in a police car today as two officers inspected evidence outside the vehicle.

Mark Robert Nolan, 29, was arrested about 10.45am (AEST) today by the two officers at a residence in Spring Hill in relation to break and enter charges.

He was handcuffed and placed in the back of an unmarked police car, Deputy Commissioner Ian Stewart told reporters in Brisbane.

“Police then began examining the contents of a bag found in his possession,” Mr Stewart said.

“They did that at the rear of the police car.

“During that time, it appears Nolan has got into the front of the police car and turned the police car on and driven off in the police car.”

The police vehicle was found in Stafford, on Brisbane’s north, about an hour later, however, Nolan remains at large.

Afghanistan: Lucky Soldier Dives On Grenade Walks Away With Bloody Nose

One man’s heroism saved the lives of his patrol

Matt Croucher

A Royal Marine in southern Afghanistan threw himself onto an exploding grenade to save the lives of his patrol.

Miraculously, Lance Corporal Matt Croucher, a marine reservist from Birmingham, survived the blast with little injury when his rucksack and body armour took the force of the blast. He is expected to receive one of the highest awards for gallantry.

The story of his courage emerged last week in interviews with marines occupying a forward operating base near Sangin in Helmand province. They are preparing to leave after serving for six months at the centre of some of the fiercest fighting in Afghanistan. The outpost, Forward Operating Base Inkerman, is better known to troops as “FOB Incoming”.

India: Stray Dog On Runway Crashes Plane On Belly

ATR Bangalore: A small aircraft of Kingfisher Airlines with 29 people on board on a flight to Hyderabad was involved in an accident on the runway at the airport on Thursday night shortly before take-off, leaving two passengers injured.

The planes nosewheel was damaged after it hit a dog that strayed into the area and since the canine got entangled in the nosewheel, the pilot applied the brake, jamming the landing gear of the ATR aircraft afterwhich the aircraft slid on the runway on its belly. All passengers of the IT 2427 flight were evacuated from the turb-prop ATR plane afterward.

An Airlines spokesman said the aircraft hit a dog on the runway leading to the collapse of its nose wheel. As the pilot applied the brake, the landing gear collapsed, leaving the plane stranded, official sources said.

Bangalore Airport Director Narendra Kaushal said two persons suffered minor injuries and all the 29 passengers were moved out of the plane.

He said the aircraft came to a stand still due to the nosewheel collapse. “It was not a crash landing”, he told PTI.
Kaushal said as the runway was blocked by the stranded plane on the runway, movement of flights in and out of Bangalore came to a complete halt and it would take some time to get it cleared for resumption of flights.

Efforts were on to tow the aircraft from the runway. A spokesmen of the Kingfisher Airline described the incident as an “aborted take-off”.

Bouncing pole!

A Polish man survived a fall from a fourth floor balcony without a scratch after he hit a clothes line and bounced into bushes.

Robert Kaminski, 24, slipped and fell from the balcony at his flat in Biala Podlaska, in south east Poland.

He hit the washing line hanging over the balcony of a flat three storeys below. Witnesses said he then bounced off the washing line and landed in bushes.

He was taken to hospital but doctors said he had been completely unhurt by the fall.

Kaminski said: “The doctors said I would have certainly died if it had not been for that washing line. I feel like I’ve been born again.”
